Overview of Victoria COVID-19 Cases By Postcode The Victorian government's site shows COVID-19 cases by postcode but only the change from the previous day and the number of active cases. It's not possible to tell if active cases are recent or up to a fortnight or longer old. By showing the number of new cases for each day over the past fortnight hopefully you will be able to get an idea of the potential for exposure in your local area or area of interest. The way I approach things is the number of active cases doesn't give an indication of exposure as any active case is, or should be, quickly isolated, as well as their close contacts. New cases is where there's a greater risk to the community as people are in the community before they know they're positive. We can't tell if they've acquired COVID-19 locally but if I were to guess (and that's all I can do without additional information), they've either generally obtained COVID-19 from work and will possibly infect their family and contacts. Hopefully close contacts are isolated quickly before they have spent much time in the community. Really we don't know, but without data we just have to use our best guess. The government isn't giving us the data we need and that's possibly for privacy reasons or workload reasons. As a result I look for ways to evaluate risk and each of us will probably take different approaches to estimate risk in the community. Using Victoria COVID-19 Cases By Postcode Enter up to 10 postcodes you are interest in monitoring the click Submit. Each day you can open the result page and your options are remembered. Just click Submit to see the latest information. Note that if you clear your browsing history this information is also cleared. Quick fill 10 nearest postcodes The quick fill 10 nearest postcodes options fills in the postcode fields with the 10 nearest postcodes based on your current location. The quick fill option is very handy but it should be remembered a postcode may cover many suburbs and the centre of the postcode is then the centre of all the suburbs with the same postcode, which may mean a nearby postcode appears to be further away. For example, Eltham is an adjoining suburb to where I live which I'd like included, but isn't included as the centre of the postcode (because of additional suburbs) places it further away. In this case I'll replace the last postcode with the postcode I'd really like.
