New client had a Telstra ZTE MF626 USB broadband stick. SIM had expired so purchased new SIM from Telstra and activated. Worked for a short while and then not at all. Client spent quite some time trying to solve problem then 45 minutes with Telstra telephone support at which point they gave up. The client's computer was a Toshiba notebook running Vista. The following is how I fixed the problem.

With Optus broadband I had a problem where I could not open the Hungry Jacks site. Part of the testing was to disable the wireless facility of the cable modem. How to do this could be handy when trying to debug issues or if you just wanted to disable wireless access. (Aside from the Hungry Jacks I also couldn't get into a number of sites I host, but there was no problem on the hosting end or using the Telstra service to access the sites.)

We repeatedly hear of people signing up for Bigpond ADSL entry level plan and then moving quickly to a much dearer plan. We read that around 50% of people may be doing the same. This is not necessary and people end up paying more than they should. Don't get caught out by this extremely good marketing strategy.
